In early August 2019, the sun was shining brightly under a clear blue sky. Before we knew it, we could hear the cicadas chirping and it was definitely summer.
This time, we delivered to Yamamomo Gakuen Art School Kindergarten, a local educational institution located in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture.
Custom-made furniture production
In front of the spacious entrance area for children, there are exciting play equipment and a sandbox, and we delivered a large round table and special chairs to match the spacious sandbox. The table is 120cm in diameter and can seat more than eight people. Since it is for outdoor use, it is treated with preservatives and will protect against rain and the strong sunlight that is unique to Kochi Prefecture.
Maintenance of outdoor wooden products
There are many wooden products used outdoors, and their maintenance is very important.
Wood deteriorates and rots when exposed to sunlight, wind, and rain outdoors, so it needs to be treated with preservatives. However, treating it with preservatives does not mean that it can be used forever, and maintenance is required during use.
Most of the furniture in Nakayoshi Library is for indoor use, and most of it is coated with German-made Livos Oil . This time, the furniture is for outdoor use, so we did not use Livos Oil, but instead used a preservative specifically for outdoor use.
Differences in texture and feel
Nakayoshi Library's products are particular about the "wood texture." When asked what they liked about their purchase, the overwhelming majority of people answered "the texture." The texture that children can only feel when they actually touch it with their hands and feet is the special wood texture that is unique to Nakayoshi Library.
Use the subsidy program
Kochi Prefecture has a subsidy program called the "Wood-Scented Town Development Promotion Project," which can be used if the materials used are locally produced. Geijutsu Gakuen Kindergarten also uses this program every year to purchase the furniture they need for the year.
In addition to Kochi Prefecture, each prefecture also offers various subsidy programs, which can be checked on the prefecture's website.
