Today's Manufacturing

今日のモノづくり

good morning.

A cold wave has arrived and it has been very cold every day.

Today, at the beginning of December, I am on a business trip to Hiroshima.

Usually, a day passes by in a flash, so I don't realize it's already this late.

I often think this way, but when I look at the customers passing by in the store,

I can't believe it's still this late.

We want to cherish this precious time and use it meaningfully.

In the manufacturing industry, you can never make a good product if you rush or make things in a hurry.

I think so. But if you can develop the ability to devote yourself to making things,

Before you know it, it's already this late. You can get so engrossed in it that you forget the passage of time.

What if I could devote myself to something I'm interested in and something I like, and continue working on it for 10 or 20 years?

This is a happy thing.

The Nakayoshi Library Mitoyo Factory is very busy today as well.

Everyone seems to be engrossed in making things.

We are currently producing several hundred car sets.

It's so busy.

We are very sorry for the long wait during the Christmas season.

However, there are some customers who cannot make it in time, so we will deliver after the new year.

This often happens.

To fulfill as many of our customers' desires as possible for the good things they want by this date.

I will do my best to make it.

The railroad crossing parts for the car set are made from cherry wood.

The cherry trees we make at this time of year are from Gifu Prefecture.

It has a fine texture and becomes smooth when polished.

A question we've been getting a lot lately is, "Where does the wood you use come from?"

At Nakayoshi Library, over 95% of the materials used are domestically produced.

The trees that were cut down in the winter of two years ago have now been dried and are able to be used like this.

The wood used in the Nakayoshi Library comes from Kochi Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, Nara Prefecture, and Hokkaido.

We use wood from around here.

Regarding the wood used in the Nakayoshi Library,

Since the wood is not stained, we have selected wood with beautiful natural colors.

Japanese wood has a very beautiful color, and when it is processed into boards,

Its beauty stands out.

So, which part of the tree is this beautifully colored part?

Wood has sapwood and heartwood.

The darker parts are the heartwood (near the center of the tree).

What is around it will still be sapwood.

The heartwood we use is older wood with beautiful color, which is characterized by its hardness and low warping.

It is by using this core material that we are able to create toys that are so finely crafted and feel so good.

Prototype: Fox clock!(^^)!

This yellow and white contrast is the same as the heartwood and sapwood.

I'm just using the space.

The difference in color is like this

I come to life in design

A lot of hardwood scraps are produced.

Many of the houses around here use firewood.

It will be gone soon.

Through toy making

Let's make full use of these trees that have grown for nearly 100 years.
