Custom-made wooden furniture that embodies your wishes
Nakayoshi Library sometimes receives requests from customers to create original furniture, such as "I want this kind of product" or "I want you to change the dimensions." W-san's first inquiry was in this way. It has been about three years since then. We have delivered a lot of furniture to his home in Mie Prefecture, including cute bear storage furniture, a wooden bed, and a piano sheet music storage shelf. This time, we visited W-san's home.
This is Hamada. This time, I worked on creating a blueprint from the illustrations I received. I'm looking forward to seeing how it's used in the room.
Q. How did you find out about Nakayoshi Library?
I came across this product about 10 years ago when I was searching online for a wooden toy. I was looking for a toy for my daughter to play house with, and when I saw wooden vegetables, knives, and other products that had natural colors even though they were made of wood, I thought, "So cute! I want one!" But I ended up not being able to buy one because I couldn't afford it at the time...
I'm glad to hear that you've known about it for a long time. When you were making this cupboard that you purchased three years ago, did anything make you remember Nakayoshi Library?
It was always on my mind, but I was a little worried. At first, I thought I would ask a local furniture store that I always ask for furniture for my parents' house. However, I couldn't fully convey the image of the cupboard with a bear accent that I wanted, and when I was wondering where to ask, I remembered something that happened when I was looking at my daughter's toys, so I decided to ask for advice.
When I received your email inquiry, I remember that the illustration you drew had an impact on me, and I thought, "It would be interesting if we could make this into a reality!" and immediately got a quote. Were you worried about the quality of the finished product when ordering furniture online?
I was a bit worried. I wondered if the illustrations would be enough to convey everything, and how much could be produced within the budget. I also wondered if my detailed requests would be properly reflected. I had known about Nakayoshi Library for a long time, but this was my first time ordering from them.
That's right. We are also conscious of making sure that our customers can place orders with peace of mind, but the disadvantage is that it is difficult to convey subtle nuances online. Drawings and written explanations are necessary. How did you like the furniture we delivered?
It was very good. The way the boards were attached and the different wood colors were exactly as I imagined, which I couldn't tell from the drawings, and the bear I wanted arrived cute (^^♪
I felt relieved to hear that, because as a manufacturer, I was curious to know in what specific ways the product would be useful in people's daily lives after they purchased it.
This is not limited to the furniture from Nakayoshi Library, but I think I am a person who is very particular. I have a lot of hobbies. I play the piano as a job, but it was originally a passion that led me to make it my job. Speaking of hobbies, I have been a fan of the musical Annie for 26 years. I still go to the theater, and I have all of the DVDs and merchandise. I also like the Turkish furniture brand CILEK and have been using it for a long time.
You're very proactive, coming by car to events for Nakayoshi Library and opening new stores. I also heard that you used to study to be a kindergarten teacher. You have a lot of preferences, so what do you look for when choosing a product?
When my children were still small, there was a time when I looked for cheap products, but since I have become more financially stable, I value using good products for a long time. My husband also encouraged me by saying, "If it's something you like, you shouldn't compromise on the choice."
Looking around the room, it's really neat and tidy.
I am particular about things, but I don't actually own that many things. I aim to live a minimalist life , and I believe that if I only have the bare necessities, I can feel enriched.
I noticed that the shelves and drawers were well organized and the dining table was space-saving and well-utilized.
Since I first placed the order, I was happy to see the idea of "It would be nice if we had furniture like this" come to fruition. I'm looking forward to gradually collecting furniture for my room and building a series. The fact that I can turn such wishes into reality is what made me choose this company.
Now I am surrounded by bears and live happily every day. I will continue to use them with care and look forward to seeing what the bears will be like in 10 or 20 years.
