When developing the family bookshelf, we designed it from the perspective of what would be convenient to have at home. There are probably many customers who are worried about how to store things in the same way. A bookshelf that everyone can use. Its name is the Family Bookshelf.

Furniture for adults or furniture for children?

In the category of large furniture, I think there is no such thing as furniture for adults or children. However, when you look at the products on the market, many of the products for children are cute and inexpensive, with a construction that is commensurate with the price. The concept of the furniture we envision is that it is easy for children to use, but we also value the fact that it can be used for a long time. We want the family bookshelf to store adult books, children's picture books, stationery used by the whole family, etc.

Versatility for any occasion

When creating a family bookshelf, we imagined an urban nuclear family. A family of about 3 to 4 people. There is a dining table in the living room, where the children study. This is not an uncommon scene for children who do not have their own rooms. Next to the dining table, school supplies can be stored and a backpack can be placed. Mom and Dad can also store their bags and tools. A shared bookshelf that the whole family can use. Of course, it would also be nice to line them up next to a study desk.

We would like to introduce some of the points we focus on.

It is difficult to find a bookshelf made entirely of wood, even in a world filled with so many things. We will explain what makes Nakayoshi Library's children's furniture different from other companies' products.

~Adult design~

When considering product designs, we first listen to the needs of our customers and draw up sketches. Wooden furniture can last for over 100 years if it is used with care. It has a longer lifespan than a human, so it would be a waste to only think about it when you are a child!! We always think of designs that can be used continuously, even when you become a student or an adult. Wooden and simple. Our design concept is furniture for both adults and children.

-I want you to use it in a state close to nature-

Nakayoshi Library's children's furniture is primarily made from cypress from Kochi Prefecture. The trees are 50 to 70 years old and are of high quality. The cost of the material is not cheap, but the longer you use it, the more it will turn amber and improve in luster. As time goes on, artificial wood grain "looks" are often used, but considering the harm to humans caused by harmful substances released from adhesives, we still prefer to provide natural wood for children.

~Uses safe and natural paints~

The process that Nakayoshi Library spends the most time on is painting and polishing. We place great importance on the safety of polishing for children, so we round the corners and finish so that they don't hurt when they touch it. We polish the pieces many times to make them smooth. And then there's the paint. We use vegetable-derived Libos oil for the paint. We polish the wood while allowing the vegetable oil, whose main ingredient is linseed oil, to penetrate the wood. It is not a petroleum-based paint, so there is no unpleasant odor and it brings out the wood grain. Best of all, it is harmless to the human body and can be applied without a mask. Of course, we use the same paint for the toys as well.

Ingenuity and ease of use in every detail

The family bookshelf is designed to be used by both adults and children, so it has been designed with careful consideration. Storage methods vary depending on the situation in your home, but here are the basics.

Smooth withdrawal

The drawers are equipped with sliding rails. Even if you pull the drawers all the way out, they will not fall out and can be opened and closed smoothly. The biggest advantage is that they can be moved smoothly even when heavy objects are placed inside. Applying oil to them once a year to make them more slippery will make them last even longer. In the unlikely event that they become damaged after years of use, the drawers can be removed and repaired promptly. Please rest assured.

Difficult for babies to open

Small children love drawers! They are starting to get interested in this and that, and want to open them. Mothers try to attach locks and strings to the drawers, but they don't like the look. So we decided not to add handles and to make the recesses less noticeable. The design is simple in appearance.

The back side, which cannot be seen, also uses a lot of wood

The back of the furniture is the part that faces the wall, so in many cases plywood or wood grain prints are used, but at Nakayoshi Library we stick real wood on it. In fact, the boards visible between the books at the front are much more beautiful than the back, so we value that visual. The back panel is made of knot-free Shimanto cypress, a high-quality product that has a nice fragrance and is also used as a flooring material for homes.

The shelf spacing is 30 mm

The shelves are spaced 30mm apart so they can be moved. You can also order additional shelves, which is convenient if you need more items. The shelves are made of straight-grained cypress, which is resistant to warping. Of course, it is a high-quality material without a single knot. Some people may say it is a shame to use them for shelves.

Business books are also arranged in two rows, front and back.

By dividing it into front and back, you can store frequently used books in the front and lower books in the back. It has plenty of depth, which is convenient. In addition, the dimensions and specifications have been changed from the conventional model, giving it a more stable feel overall.
