Inside LEXUS Amagasaki

We proposed a kids' room for LEXUS Amagasaki using materials from Hyogo Prefecture. In addition, a tapestry made of Japanese traditional craft Kumiko was placed at the front to link with the Japanese car manufacturing. Compressed cedar was used for the flooring. A special kids' room with the scent of wood was completed.

Lexus Kids Room
From the entrance

The overall view of the entrance shows a Kumiko tapestry in front, and although it is a kids' room, it creates an elegant atmosphere that is typical of Lexus.

At the entrance, there is a sign stating that the main material used is wood from Hyogo Prefecture. The night view of Kobe city and the Lexus logo were created by laser printing. The wood from Hyogo was arranged by Yamasaki Masao , who is also the representative of Sharewoods, an organization that works in forestry in Hyogo Prefecture. He also took care of everything from arranging the materials to the secondary processing of the cypress laminated wood. We would like to introduce it to you.

Strong cedar floor panels are a product of Goto Lumber

The flooring is made of cedar. Cedar is a naturally soft wood that feels good underfoot, but this time we've chosen compressed cedar, which is less prone to scratches. This is "Tsuyosugi-kun," a product of Goto Mokuzai, a lumber manufacturer in Gifu. This time, we finished it with natural paint for the kids' room of a LEXUS. The wood grain is applied vertically and horizontally in alternating directions to create a checkerboard pattern. This is another traditional Japanese pattern on the floor.

Kumiko
Kumiko Tapestry

The Kumiko tapestry is the work of Tosa Kumiko Iwamoto, a kumiko craftsman and designer based in Kochi Prefecture. The LEXUS logo is painted in alternating layers of silver and black paint so that it does not blend in with the back.

The background is intentionally black to highlight the Kumiko pattern. Just by placing a Kumiko wall hanging (tapestry) that combines the pleasant scent of cypress and traditional Japanese techniques in front of you, the room will be enveloped in a sense of luxury.

Assembled mini house

The assembled mini house was custom made for LEXUS. A magnetic trapezoid puzzle was attached to the original wall.

The wooden pieces are made of different materials on the front and back, and a magnet is sandwiched between them. All the different types of wood are domestically produced and carefully polished to a smooth finish. Some of them also have a unique scent, so you can enjoy the scent and feel.

LEXUS Kids Room

In order to encourage children to play in a limited space, it is necessary to make effective use of the walls. Other dealerships have fun play equipment such as blackboards, but at Lexus, we have educational toys such as magnets and building blocks so that the area is less likely to get dirty.

Utilizing local materials and Japanese traditions

Asanoha pattern kumiko
Checkered pattern cedar panels

When customers enter the kids' room, they will think, "This is different from others" just because it is made with local wood from Hyogo Prefecture . Also, just like Lexus, we are committed to making it a Japanese-made room that reflects the craftsmanship of our artisans , so we proposed a theme of using local materials and Japanese traditions . The checkered pattern on the floor and the hemp leaf pattern on the kumiko are both patterns that represent Japan.

We provide toys and play equipment made from natural materials, so that babies can play safely without coming into contact with chemicals and feel the natural texture indoors. I think that the kids' room at LEXUS Amagasaki has been given a more attractive look by adding traditional Japanese patterns and techniques .

Hajime Hamada

We hope that the kids' room will be a conversation starter for the staff of Lexus Amagasaki who guide customers. And of course, we want the children to have fun and stay for a long time while they play. We want parents to feel at ease in the space, with rounded furniture so that they can leisurely look at the cars and natural materials that are safe to put in their mouths . This is a kids' room that is meaningful to those who use it and those involved. We plan to continue to maintain it in the future for a monthly subscription.
