Today I'm in Tokyo installing furniture. It's been a year since I last worked on-site, so I'll be careful not to accidentally drill holes in the house. This year I'm planning to accelerate the development of furniture and play equipment, so please keep checking our website.
Partition furniture for a small nursery school in Tokyo
In fiscal year 2023, various subsidies have been provided to Tokyo nurseries as safety measures, and if the equipment in the nursery room is deemed necessary for safety measures, subsidies can be used to improve the environment. This time, the delivery destination was Mediple Yoga Nursery School (Setagaya Ward), where we replaced the nursery furniture that divides the nursery space for children.
Furniture for dividing the nursery room between 2-year-olds and 1-year-olds
We installed a storage unit with a sliding door (gate type) as a partition between the dining space for 2-year-olds and the dining space for 1-year-olds. We also proposed to use it together with a picture book shelf on the 2-year-olds' room side. By fixing it firmly to the wall, it will be safe and will not fall over even though the depth is narrow.
Before: A simple bellows door
Previously, the door was a simple bellows-type plastic door. This improved the problem of childcare workers being unable to open and close the door smoothly.
after wooden gate
This time, the gate was made of wood and the lock was changed to make it more secure. The lock is a push-and-twist type, which makes it difficult for a two-year-old to open, making it easier for childcare to proceed.
The gate is 8cm deep. It is the smallest size, but it is fixed to the wall for safety. It was made to order to save space.
Door to the toilet (opening door)
A new partition was installed between the eating area and the toilet. Due to space restrictions, a gate was not possible, so a swing door was installed, but it is a lift-up type so children cannot open or close it by themselves . While ensuring safety, it can also be opened both forward and backward, making it very convenient.
Entrance gate storage
The furniture separating the entrance and the room is a gate type. This furniture also serves as storage. We proposed this furniture so that it does not interfere with the flow of movement in a limited space, and can also store items such as disaster prevention supplies and humidifiers .
Before: Using a commercially available gate
Commercially available gates are low, so we had to step over them when carrying food from the kitchen, and the children could see through to the other side, making it difficult to concentrate on eating.
After: Furniture that doubles as a storage unit and gate
To improve the problem, we suggested rearranging the furniture and changing its orientation to create a smoother flow of traffic .
Disaster preparedness supplies and humidifier storage furniture
The nursery school wanted to store disaster prevention supplies and a humidifier, so we took that into consideration when designing the room. The humidifier has a removable grille so that air can be expelled from the front and top. We also machined holes for the power outlets to make it neat and tidy.
Summary of nursery furniture
Nurseries and small kindergartens often use furniture to separate activity areas from dining areas, or to separate spaces by age. Nakayoshi Library starts by proposing ready-made products based on the needs of the nursery school, and in some cases we can also propose custom-made products.
