Education that leads children to independence
Juoh Kindergarten practices the Yokomine style of education, which places the independence of children at the core of its educational policy. They carefully engage with each child, helping them discover what they can do and linking it to independence. Daily education includes many thinking habits, such as exercises, running, drawing, reading, writing, and arithmetic, and places great importance on practice. We at Nakayoshi Library were consulted through their website and decided to help out. Each classroom is spacious, and to ensure a large workspace, we proposed lockers that fit snugly against the wall for each class.
A functional locker
Although the meetings were mostly done by email, we received requests such as "I want a wider depth" and "I want drawers that can be pulled out smoothly," and we proposed a design that would meet those requests. We added drawer rails, which are not usually installed in children's lockers. The drawers can be pulled out and inserted smoothly.
Perfect size to fit on the wall
We made the lockers for Juoh Kindergarten to fit perfectly into the wall. The detailed dimensions were given to us by Mr. Kashimura, who was in charge of the design, and we decided on the layout of the drawers accordingly. Together with the storage for cleaning tools, we created a stunning wall of furniture made of natural cypress.
Excellent humidity control material
When choosing wooden nursery furniture such as lockers and tables, some customers have endless concerns, such as "Will it be vulnerable to water?", "Will it rot or get moldy?", and so on. We often receive such questions. However,
Real wood is a natural product. It absorbs moisture when it is humid and releases moisture when it is dry. In addition, unlike synthetic wood, it does not carry static electricity, which helps prevent the spread of viruses, and the unique properties of cypress provide insect repellent and humidity control. The product will be delivered to Juoh Kindergarten in June during the rainy season. During production, we adjusted the warping of the wood and the bulging of the drawers.
Aiming for 100% in 10 years
The cypress used for the lockers is from Kochi Prefecture and is a high-quality material that is used in wooden buildings, and is characterized by its water resistance and resistance to rot. In addition, the color deepens and changes when it comes into contact with air. The way it is used gives it a lot of character, and even after delivery, it will continue to gain color and texture as it records the memories of the children at the nursery school. It becomes even more valuable after five or ten years of use than in the first year. This is the kind of wood we use.
