Kyorin University Hospital
A medical institution located in Mitaka City, Tokyo.
The university hospital's pediatric ward has been renovated and relocated to provide patients with a better, more comfortable hospital and treatment environment.
The design, based on the concept of "a hospital in Musashino Forest," was developed over a period of just under two years by medical staff, including doctors and nurses.
As part of this project, we are pleased to deliver custom-made Nakayoshi Library furniture to the playroom in the pediatric ward.
This room is for use by hospitalized children.
It is important for the ward to ensure the development of the functions that are essential for children and to provide them with a place to "live" and "play." This is a place where we have prepared many toys and picture books so that they do not feel stressed due to being hospitalized.
Around August 2019, we began making full progress towards completion and delivery.
The meetings were mainly conducted by email with the nursery teacher in charge of the site. We asked about the specifications of the furniture and the atmosphere of the room, and we repeatedly changed the drawings to gradually refine the image.
In order to foster children's independence and motivation, we have set up corners for each type of toy in the room . By setting up corners, children can think for themselves and make decisions, such as "select a toy to play with and go to the selected corner" or "tidy up."
Also, from around the age of one, children start to "play pretend," and from around the age of three, when their sense of self begins to emerge, they start to use their imagination more, which leads to a desire to grow. For this reason, it is very important to provide a good environment. Providing this environment is our number one role at Nakayoshi Library.
Because playrooms in kindergartens and hospital wards need to be cleaned every day, we have rounded the grooves and corners where dust tends to accumulate, making them safer for the children and reducing the cleaning burden on teachers .
Maintenance of wooden products
Desks and shelves made of natural wood do not require any special care.
Just like with any desk you normally use, you can wipe the dining table with water or alcohol.
This time, we worked in collaboration with a construction company to design and install the built-in furniture.
The room has a bright, soft atmosphere with the scent of cypress, making it a comfortable place for children to spend time.
(The hand washing partition is also made of solid cypress) (Custom-made wall cabinet)
The tree panel, which is a symbol of "a hospital in Musashino Forest," is located in a position that can be seen from outside.
The trunks grow from floor to ceiling, and the leaves are from cherry, maple, beech, and burdock, making the most of the wood's natural materials without using any coloring.
This time, we delivered to a university hospital playroom for the first time. Unlike the nurseries and kindergartens that we usually do business with, we realized how difficult it is to provide a stress-free environment for hospitalized children in a limited space.
However, after completing this latest delivery, we have been reminded that "we can handle everything from sales to manufacturing and delivery in-house" and "the experiences we have had talking with customers will come in handy in the future," and we will continue to create products that delight our customers.
As this was our first delivery to a university hospital, there were some aspects for which we were unfamiliar, but we are glad that we were able to deliver the goods safely.
