What are the benefits of oil?

Applying oil to the surface of wood
You can expect three main effects from this oil: 1. Prevents stains, 2. Prevents the wood from drying out, and 3. Adds shine. In particular, wood drying may occur rapidly depending on the environment of the room after delivery. Wood shrinkage can cause the wood to crack. Applying oil can prevent cracks caused by dry wood to some extent. Nakayoshi Library furniture and toys are pre-painted when shipped. (Some products are unpainted.)

When to use it?

This product is used to prevent and protect the wooden toys and furniture of Nakayoshi Library from getting dirty, so please apply it regularly. The products are shipped with this oil applied, but the effectiveness of the oil will decrease over time due to the drying of the wood and the baby's drool. If this happens, applying it again will help prevent dirt from getting back on the products.

What are the ingredients of the oil? Is it safe?

The main ingredient is linseed oil, which is grown organically and without pesticides. It also contains orange oil. In terms of safety, the oil complies with the German Industrial Standard* (DIN EN 71 part 3) for wooden toys for young children. *This standard is a standard to ensure that certain harmful substances contained in toys do not adversely affect children's health. You can rest assured that it is highly safe.

Is it okay not to apply oil?

Yes. Applying oil is not required. Not applying oil will not damage the product. It is entirely optional, so it is up to the customer's discretion. All Nakayoshi Library products are made from genuine domestic wood, so applying oil regularly will help your furniture and toys last longer and maintain their luster. It also protects against cracks and splinters. For example, we apply oil to dry skin, right? This will reduce the luster and cracks. We recommend applying oil to keep the product in better condition.

What products are covered?

This applies to all Nakayoshi Library products that have natural oils applied to them.

What you can do with the maintenance oil kit

You can easily apply oil at home to protect your furniture and toys. Maintenance supplies such as sandpaper are also included in the kit. Minor stains and graffiti made by children can be removed.

How much area can be covered with one bottle of oil?

The volume of one bottle of oil is 0.05L. One coat can cover approximately 1㎡.

How to store oil?

Store in a cool, dark place.

How should I dispose of the rags after using oil?

When discarding a rag soaked in oil, soak it in water, place it in a plastic bag, remove the air, and discard it. If you want to dry it and reuse it, dry it in a well-ventilated place until the oil is completely dry before using it again. Oil is a flammable liquid. If you leave oiled rags stacked in a sunny place, they may ignite at around 60 degrees, so please dispose of oiled rags properly.

When should I apply it?

Please check the approximate time for applying oil as it varies depending on the product.

Baby toys (pacifiers and cradle dolls)

Wooden toys that babies put in their mouths contain moisture, so apply the product when the surface becomes rough. As a guideline, you should do this about once a month.

Other toys

We recommend cleaning it about once every six months. Also, if you are storing it for a long period of time and it is used less frequently, we recommend applying oil to it before storing it.

Dining tables and other furniture that need to be wiped down with water every day

For regular maintenance, wiping with water is sufficient. The reason is that oil gets on the table from food spills every day, so wiping with water allows the oil to penetrate the wood surface to a certain extent. It may be a bit of a hassle, but it is important to wipe with water every day if it gets dirty after a meal. We recommend applying oil once a month to once every three months . Applying oil makes it harder for dirt to penetrate the surface, so we recommend regular maintenance to keep the table clean.

Storage furniture and other furniture that does not require wiping with water

We recommend applying oil about once a year. Since it does not dry out as much as other furniture, you do not need to apply oil as often. However, in places that are constantly exposed to air conditioning or strong sunlight, the drying process will progress quickly, so we recommend applying oil about once every six months.
